11/06/05 - Annual Toy Auction

John Roebuck was host to the 2005 National Auctioneers Association’s male and female grand champions, who visited Memphis Nov. 6 and 7.

They traveled to Memphis with Bob Shively, NAA chief executive officer and Bill Sheridan, NAA 2006 president-elect, for a very special auction.

The champs, Cary Aasness and Johnna Wells, conducted the annual toy auction at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital . The young bidders, all patients at the cancer treatment hospital, ranged in age from tots to teens, were given play money which they used to bid on toys donated for the sale.

It didn’t take long for the youngsters to catch on to the bidding process, which was apparent by the eager waving of paddles, as they vied for their favorite items.

A variety of toys were available, ranging from videos to Barbies and cars and trucks.  Hundreds of toys found new owners, but it was hard to tell who was more excited, the children, or the auctioneers!
